Australian Institute of Management - Celebrating 65 years

Management in Australia

Just as the world at large is a constantly evolving entity, management thought, theory and practice continues to be remodelled, reengineered and indeed freshened with absolute innovation. The advent of new technologies, the ever-shrinking distance between the countries of the world created by globalisation and B2B ensures that leadership and management will need to continue to evolve.

We are told by Australian Managers that they are constantly striving to keeping up to date with current management theory and practice.

As Australia's largest professional body for managers, AIM facilitates management and leadership excellence by promoting, supporting and developing the profession of management in all its forms.

AIM's definition of a manager is a person who plans, leads, organises, delegates, controls, evaluates and budgets in order to achieve an outcome.

Managers are found in all industries, and at all levels of today's organisation. At the last census over 1.2 million people identified themselves as Managers. Not all of these managers were Executives, General Managers, Senior Managers or functional managers… in fact many of these managers were role managers, responsible for a specific project, function, service or product line.

However, no matter what level of responsibility is held, the practise of management remains the same albeit with differing challenges.
